Article by Sutiyo Na

Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms that people suffering from multiple sclerosis are complaining about. And, you also have to remember that fatigue is also the number one reason why people suffering from multiple sclerosis end up being physically disabled.

You have to keep in mind that fatigue associated with multiple sclerosis is very real. It is also one of the most prominent symptoms for 85-95 percent of people suffering from multiple sclerosis.

So, it is important for you to know how to fight fatigue associated with multiple sclerosis in order for you to keep being productive in society and avoid becoming disabled.

First of all, you need to be aware of any medications you are taking. It may have side effects. Anti-depressants are known to have side effect of fatigue. Try to talk to your doctor about it and they will be able to tell you which medications you are taking can cause fatigue.

Another great tip for combating fatigue is by drinking plenty of water. You need to keep in mind that dehydration can cause fatigue. If you are suffering from multiple sclerosis, it is very likely that you don’t like to drink water. This is because you are suffering from an over active bladder. Try to drink plenty of water as you will need this for energy and also to remove the toxins in your body, which is also related to fatigue.

Improper breathing can cause fatigue. Try breathing properly by breathing in deep through your nose and exhaling long through your mouth. Shallow and short breaths can reduce the amount of oxygen absorbed by the cells in your body, which commonly causes fatigue.

Even if you are suffering from multiple sclerosis, you should never neglect to exercise. Exercising regularly can cause you to feel tired but if you do it frequently, exercising can eventually make you feel more energized. It basically increases your energy level and you should try exercising no matter what level your multiple sclerosis is.

Having multiple sclerosis can cause you to become depressed. Besides, the mere fact of knowing that you have this disease can really be depressing. And, you may want to remember that depression can cause you to feel fatigue. The only way for you to avoid this situation is by avoiding being depressed. This basically means that you have to try and accept the fact that you are suffering from this disease, which will eventually prevent you from becoming depressed.

Heat also increases fatigue. Avoid staying out in the heat or you can try using a cooling vest. You can also try activities that keep your body cool, such as swimming.

You should also avoid simple carbohydrates as these types of food can cause you to slow down and eventually make you feel fatigued.

Living a very routine lifestyle can also cause you to feel fatigue. Try to do a little variation in your daily activities and you will be able to keep looking forward to what the future has in store for you. This will also help in avoiding boredom, which can cause the feeling of fatigue.

So, if you are suffering from multiple sclerosis, keep in mind that you have to try and combat fatigue related to this disease. By doing so, you will be able to live a more normal life and still be able to function well in society.

Hosted by Steve Savant, national insurance columnist and financial color commentator. Special Guest: Special Guest: Sue Kelly RN, Women Against Multiple Sclerosis Luncheon Chairwoman and Brandee Wessel, Director of Development for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society/ Arizona Chapter. First signs of MS were double vision and dizziness, which were symptoms of a possible brain tumor but the MRI confirmed Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis can strike anyone, even without MS in their family history. No one actually dies of MS; they die of other conditions complicated by Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis affects daily living activities because it causes great fatigue or sometimes sends unwarranted signals of fatigue. In one example, a woman annually experiences a period of blindness as the weather becomes warmer. MS affects the whole family, job and recreational activities.
